Crustacius said “They’ll never pass the fretum gaditanum”.
Meaning: Crustacius was being very sure that the galley slaves were “only” mutineers who were amateur. The “fretum gaditanum” or straits of Gibraltar was a dangerous strait with the dangerous tides. Only the good sailors would be able to pass this strait. Crustacius was sure that the galley slaves would never pass the Gibraltar, and then they could be caught.
